Trial access to 31 December 2009 now available for Mosby's Nursing Index and Mosby's Nursing Consult.
Mosby's Index is a new abstracting and indexing database for nursing and allied health literature. Updated daily, Mosby's Index offers access evidence-based content such as:
- Cover-to-cover indexing of more than 2,500 international journal titles, including peer-reviewed journals, trade publications, and electronic-only titles
- Includes 1,300 journal titles that are not available in CINAHL
- Coverage is comprehensive and includes evidence-based healthcare; all nursing specialties and professions; nursing education and training; nursing development and management; and much more!
- Ability to search, browse, save searches in folders, set up e-mail alerts, view and edit search history, e-mail search results
- Uses the EMTREE Life Science thesaurus, enhanced for nursing

An out of hours reference service is available called Chasing the Sun. The aim of this service is to put you in contact with a librarian when you need some urgent help in finding database information after hours. The service makes use of time zone differences between countries, so that a librarian who is at work in the United Kingdom will be able to answer your query.

Hitting the Headlines is streamed live on the Library's site. "Hitting the Headlines" is produced for the NHS by the Centre for Reviews and Dissemenation at the University of York. Hitting the Headlines offers an analysis of the evidence behind selected health stories reported in national newspapers. Summaries of news stories are posted within 48 hours of newspaper publication to ensure that health professionals and the public are better informed about the accuracy of reporting of research in the press.

The Library has purchased online access to many more books and journals for 2006. The MD Consult collection has been bought and many of the Stat!Ref book titles. MD Consult includes many journal titles, including all of the Clinics series, and many online books. The latest list (December 2005) of print resources purchased for the collection may be viewed on the intranet.
The Library has purchased a SMAHS wide license to EndNote 9 bibliographic management software. This can be used in conjunction with the databases to create personalised libraries of references from citations download and imported into EndNote. The Library staff is preparing some educational / orientation sessions on EndNote for the first quarter of 2006.
