The Pre-admission Clinic and Day of Surgery Admission Ward (DOSA) were designed to improve the management of patients requiring admission to hospital for elective surgery at both Fremantle Hospital and Kaleeya Campus. All patients booked for elective surgery (except Cardio-thoracic) attend the pre-admission clinic two to four weeks prior to surgery. A comprehensive multidisciplinary health assessment is performed which includes staff from anaesthetics, physiotherapy, medical teams, nursing, and other allied health disciplines. All pre-operative investigations are completed prior to surgery. Patients are required to complete a health questionnaire prior to the pre-admission visit. This allows health, social problems and discharge planning needs to be identified early, and appropriate referrals initiated. Different Ways of Admission for Surgery
