Welcome

The Department of Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine is the Western Australian State Referral Service for Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine.

Mission

The Department houses a consultation facility and a treatment facility with two multi-place recompression chambers and 2 Sechrist 32 monoplace chambers. Transcutaneous oximetry studies are performed on site to measure and map tissue oxygenation to assess suitability for hyperbaric treatment.

The purpose of hyperbaric oxygenation is to:

  • Treat patients with Decompression Sickness and/or Cerebral Arterial Gas Embolism (CAGE) either diver related or iatrogenic
  • Utilise the physiological effects of improved oxygenation to hypoxic tissues.
