A comprehensive Cardiac Service Unit for Fremantle Hospital and Health Service was completed with the commissioning of a Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit in August 1997. Fremantle Hospital and Health Service facilities have been upgraded to include two fully equipped cardiothoracic operating theatres, a ward for cardiothoracic pre and post operative patients and Intensive Care Unit beds for the care of post-operative patients.
The service offers a comprehensive range of adult cardiothoracic surgical procedures which include coronary artery by-pass surgery, heart valve repair and replacement and chest and lung surgery. The Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit is augmented by the services of Cardiovascular Medicine and Respiratory Medicine which include:
