The Paediatric Unit at Fremantle Hospital is a modern purpose built facility providing medical, limited neonatal, surgical and emergency paediatric services to the South Metropolitan region.

The paediatric ward at Fremantle Hospital is well equipped with 23 beds including 9 isolation rooms and a 4 bed level one nursery. The staff are trained to provide paediatric care for all children from newborns through to adolescents not requiring critical care. Twenty four hour paediatric registrar cover is available on site.

  • Infectious diseases
  • Refugee health
  • Dermatology

  • Gastroenterology
  • Cardiology
  • Orthopaedic surgery
  • Neonatology

The paediatric ward is well supported by a multidisciplinary team including a dietician, social worker, speech pathologist and Mothercraft Nurse. Other allied health practitioners are available as required. The ward is well supported by Hospital School Services, Hospital in the Home as well as The Clown Doctors, Radio Lollypop and Captain Starlight from PMH.

The team liaises regularly with:

  • Southwell Child Development Centre
  • South Metropolitan Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service
  • Princess Margaret Hospital
  • Kaleeya Hospital
  • Rockingham Hospital

Outpatient services are provided in general paediatrics, paediatric surgery and urology and paediatric nephrology, neurology, immunology, infectious diseases and refugee health and dermatology. Referrals can be made by GPs or from any Department of Health Emergency Department
