The Diabetes Education Team believe that clients and their significant others should receive effective counselling, education and support to enable self management in achieving control of their diabetes whilst living life to its full potential. The team believes that education and support, based on evidenced-based practice and current research, should be extended to include other Health Professionals and members of the community. The Diabetes Education Unit provides Assessment, management, comprehensive education and support to people with diabetes in the in-patient and outpatient setting. Clinical leadership, consultancy and up to date evidence based educational resource to the South Metropolitan Area Health Service nursing, GP providers and allied health professionals on issues pertinent to Diabetes management Training of health professionals to enhance the quality of clinical practice in the care of people with diabetes
